It’s not beer. It’s lager.

Highland CowI have been a bad, bad blogger of late.  This is my first post in almost two months.  Forgiveness!  I have lots to talk about, especially our trip to England and Scotland earlier this month.  It will, I promise, be discussed at length over the next few posts.  To start with, here’s the story of one of the best beer quotes I’ve ever heard.

After checking into our sleeper berth on the overnight train from London to Aviemore, Scotland, we walked to the dining car.  I noticed several people around me drinking Stella, so I asked the waiter, “What beers do you have other than Stella?”  He replied firmly, “Stella’s not beer.  It’s lager.”

NJ Senate Committee Approves Small Brewer Bill

An amended version of Senate Bill S-641 unanimously cleared New Jersey’s Senate Law and Public Safety Committee.  Each committee member’s office had received more than 200 phone calls/emails from NJ consumers promoting the bill.   Good work, everyone.

There are still several more steps to go: vote in the full Senate, hearing/vote in the Assembly Committee, vote in the full Assembly and signature by the Governor.

Support New Jersey Senate Bill 641

For those of you who live in NJ, there’s an upcoming vote on an important piece of legislation that could significantly improve the regulatory environment faced by NJ craft brewers.  If you like craft beer and would like to see more of it produced and sold in NJ, please contact the five members of the NJ Senate Law and Public Safety Committee by Friday, March 2, to let them know that you support the legislation as a craft beer consumer and ask them to VOTE YES on the bill.   More details are available on the Garden State Craft Brewer’s Guild website.

A Very Beery Christmas

I received a lot of beer- and brewing-related gifts: a gift card to Midwest Homebrew, enough to pay for the ingredients for the next iteration of my Gimp Biscuit ESB; carboy covers complete with “Shh.  I am Fermenting” embroidery; carboy draining and storage racks; a membership in the American Homebrewers Association, complete with a subscription to their monthly magazine Zymergy; a Christmas Story pint glass; a rare Belgian made with “wild” yeast.  Thanks to wife Olivia, mother Marsha, brother Matt, and inlaws Don and Carolyn for supporting my addiction, er, hobby.
