I’ve also been hard at work on a new IPA recipe. I’m using Austin Homebrew’s clone of Green Flash’s West Coast IPA as a starting point. I made that once before, and it was fantastic. Overall, I’d like mine to be more citrusy, less grassy, and in less harsh on the back end (pretty sure that was the Columbus bittering hops in our hard water). Here’s where I’m at:
- 11.75# domestic 2-row
- 1# 60L caramel
- 1# carapils
- 2-step mash, 156 degrees for 15 minutes, and then 152 degrees for 60 minutes.
And the ridiculous hop bill:
- .5 oz Simcoe – 90mins
- .25 oz Chinook – 60 mins
- .25 oz Simcoe – 60 mins
- .25 oz Chinook – 30 mins
- .25 oz Simcoe – 30 mins
- .75 oz Chinook – 15 mins
- .75 oz Simcoe – 15 mins
- 1 oz Cascade – 15 mins
- .5 oz Chinook – flameout
- .5 oz Citra – flameout
- .75 oz Centennial – 14 days dry hop
- .5 oz Amarillo – 14 days dry hop
- .5 oz Cascade – 14 days dry hop
- .5 oz Citra – 14 days dry hop
- .25 oz Chinook- 14 days dry hop
